Spring Cleaning Melbourne: Room-by-Room Deep Clean Guide

July 24, 2026  |  By Andrii Dobrovolskyi In MVCC Cleaning
Spring Cleaning Melbourne: Room-by-Room Deep Clean Guide Banner

Spring’s finally here, and if your house is anything like most Melbourne homes, it’s been shut up tight for months with the heater running non-stop. Dust everywhere, a bit of a musty smell in the bedrooms, maybe some grime in the kitchen you’ve been ignoring. Sound familiar?

We’re Melbourne Vacate and Carpet Cleaning, and we’ve been doing this for over 20 years now. In that time we’ve cleaned pretty much every type of home Melbourne has to offer, so we’ve got a good idea of what actually needs doing when spring rolls around. Here’s our room-by-room rundown for Spring Cleaning Melbourne homes properly, not just a quick surface wipe.

Why Bother With a Proper Spring Clean

Look, it’s easy to just do the bare minimum. But a proper spring clean isn’t only about making the place look nice for visitors. Winter leaves behind dust, pollen, and moisture that builds up in carpets, cupboards, and corners you don’t think about much. If you’ve got kids or pets, or anyone with allergies, this stuff actually matters.

It’s also a decent chance to spot problems early. Mould in the bathroom, mildew creeping into the carpet, that sort of thing. Catch it now and it’s a quick fix. Leave it till summer and it’s a bigger job.

    Kitchen

This is where most people spend the bulk of their spring cleaning time, and fair enough, it’s used every day. Start with the fridge and pantry. Chuck out anything past its date and give the shelves a proper wipe down while they’re empty.

Then there’s the oven. Everyone dreads this one. Grease builds up over months, so don’t rush it, put a good degreaser on and let it sit before you start scrubbing. While you’re at it, check the range hood filter. Most people forget this exists, but it collects more grime than you’d think.

Give the cupboard doors and handles a wipe, clean out the microwave, and scrub the sink with a bit of baking soda if it’s got stains. Mop the floor last, and get into the corners properly, that’s usually where all the crumbs end up hiding.

    Bathroom

Melbourne bathrooms cop it pretty hard when it comes to mould, especially the ones without much airflow. Grab a mould-specific cleaner and get into the tiles and grout. Let it sit for a few minutes before you rinse, otherwise you’re just wiping it around.

Clean the shower screen and taps with a vinegar and water mix, it works better than most store-bought sprays for getting a streak-free shine. Don’t skip behind the toilet or under the sink either. These spots get missed constantly.

If the mould keeps coming back no matter what you do, that’s usually a ventilation problem, not a cleaning problem. Worth getting someone in to have a proper look.

    Bedrooms

Bedrooms need a bit more than tidying up the pile of clothes on the chair. Wash all your bedding, including pillows and the doona if it’s been a while. If your mattress can be flipped, flip it, and give it a vacuum too. Dust mites love a mattress that’s never touched.

While you’re in there, go through the wardrobe. Spring’s a good excuse to finally sort out the clothes you’re never wearing again. Wipe down the skirting boards, light switches, and door handles as well, they collect way more dust and germs than people realise.

Try to open the windows for a bit each day too. It sounds simple but it genuinely changes how a room feels.

    Living Areas

Dust settles on everything in a living room, shelves, light fittings, the tops of picture frames. Work from the top down so you’re not cleaning the same spot twice. Ceiling fans and light fixtures first, then furniture, then skirting boards.

Get under the couch cushions and behind the furniture, that’s where most of the dust ends up. If you’ve got curtains, wash them if you can, or at least give them a good vacuum. And don’t forget the windows, inside and out if it’s safe to do.

    Carpets

Here’s the bit people usually skip, and it’s the one we’d argue matters most for a proper Spring Cleaning Melbourne clean up. Carpets trap dust, pet hair, and allergens way down in the fibres where a regular vacuum just can’t reach. It builds up over time and it does affect the air quality in your home, more than most people realise.

A proper carpet clean isn’t just cosmetic. It pulls out the trapped grime, helps with allergies, and honestly extends the life of the carpet itself. This is the part of the job we know best. Twenty plus years in, we’ve worked on just about every carpet type there is, and we know how to get them properly clean without soaking them or wrecking the fibres.

If you’re doing it yourself, vacuum in a few different directions, not just back and forth once. A hired steam cleaner helps too, especially in high traffic spots like hallways. But if it’s been years since your carpets had a real deep clean, a professional job makes a noticeable difference.

    The Small Stuff People Forget

A few quick jobs that don’t take long but make a real difference to how clean the house actually feels:

    • Wipe light switches and door handles around the house
    • Clean inside cupboards and drawers, not just the fronts
    • Check the air con filters and give the vents a dust
    • Wash pet bedding and toys
    • Give the bins a proper clean, inside and out

None of these take more than a few minutes each, but skip them and the house never quite feels finished.

When It’s Time to Call Someone

Spring cleaning a whole house is a big ask, especially with work, kids, or just life in general getting in the way. That’s fair enough, and it’s exactly why we’re here.

We’ve spent over 20 years cleaning Melbourne homes and rental properties, from full carpet steam cleans to bathroom mould treatments to end of lease cleans that need to pass a tough inspection. We know what needs doing and how to do it properly the first time.

    Last Word

Spring Cleaning Melbourne homes doesn’t need to be an all-weekend nightmare. Break it up room by room, don’t skip the bits that are easy to ignore like carpets and vents, and take it one section at a time. And if you’d rather hand the hard parts over to someone else, give us a ring. Twenty years in the business means we’ve pretty much seen it all, and we’re happy to help get your place ready for the warmer months ahead.
